Description

  • I just bought one of your 12v conversion kits for my VNB. This kit is really amazing! 6 hours after I got the kit on the scoot, we took a 500+ km trip to the US. Tested and approved!
  • I have done their entire 12V electronic conversion, which seems like a vast improvement over the points with the added plus of having a headlight that is bright vs. a nice romantic candle light.
  • I've seen both [types of CDI kit] and the ScootRS kit is much, much nicer. I would lay my money on that one for sure. You cannot go wrong with it.

This is our latest classic CDI kit, an improvement on the first type we popularized, and the ONLY high-quality PX-style one out there. Unlike any other, our kit is entirely complete with no expensive extras to buy, and full instructions for an easy install!

This is a 12 volt CDI (electronic ignition) kit for any scooter with a VBB/VBC/VLB-type flywheel, including similar VLA and 125cc models. (Not Rally, not GS160/SS180.) This kit uses a one-piece PX-type flywheel and Ducati CDI system and thus has better power output (more coils) and a commonly available CDI unit, but it only fits classic scooters as noted, NOT P/PX! (Exception: some very late model VBC/VLB came with a PX crankshaft/flywheel, so this kit will NOT fit those. You need our regular PX kit instead. Check: an early flywheel has a circlip in the middle; a PX flywheel has threads for a flywheel puller.)

This is probably the best upgrade to add to your Vespa, and exactly what we add to our restorations. Great for stock scooters, even better for tuned scooters. By replacing the original 6v point system with our 12v CDI kit using magnetic pick up, you get zero maintenance, brighter lights, easier starting, and a smoother running engine. The kit includes everything needed and all new parts:

  1. Flywheel (~2kg) and stator
  2. Ducati type CDI/coil (good quality, not Indian!)
  3. Beautiful stainless steel CDI/coil bracket!
  4. Voltage regulator (good quality, not Indian! Usually costs extra!)
  5. 4 front/rear 12v bulbs including a 35w halogen headlight! (usually costs extra!)
  6. Add-on wiring loom hooks into original wiring (usually costs extra!)
  7. 12v brake switch conversion parts (order a 12v switch if you don't have one to convert)
  8. Hardware and rubber bits (usually costs extra!)
  9. Dual type flywheel puller.
  10. Full instructions!

We recommend you order a spare CDI/coil in case yours ever fails. If you can't remove your HT lead from your coil to re-use, see the related products.

Tech Notes

Upon purchase we will provide full instructions. Note the following:

  • It could go on the right side, but we have designed the loom with the regulator tucked neatly in the left cowl/panel. This requires you to remove the gas tank when installing and drill holes to attach it, and also drill a larger hole for the wiring loom to pass through. A rubber bit is supplied for this larger hole so that it matches the opposite cowl's wiring loom hole.
  • Unless you rewire the entire scooter with a full loom (which you can order separately, see related items), you will only be wiring the kit into the existing wiring. Easy but, because of the original loom, the brake light will only work if the scooter's lights are turned on. In the day, if you don't already, you will need to have the lights on for the brake light to work. If you are restoring your scooter, order a complete loom and this limitation can be avoided.
  • We have found that the original 6v horn continues to work fine, as does the little speedo light, so these are not included. You can always add them later if needed.
  • On a Cushman Vespa with a SIEM 15mm headlight bulb holder a customer needed to use the ScootRS modern headlight bulb V1819-H-12V. Shave off the ring around the bulb. The ring is just a press fit and comes off easily. Fits like a glove.
