Scientology has nothing on some ModernVespa leaders.
The ModernVespa forum admin, Jess Devine, and a couple insiders (not all and not regular members!) immediately reverted to their dishonest tactics when confronted about them, thus proving exactly what we said earlier about their manipulating info and attacking non-sponsors.
(First compare an honest, well-run forum like Scooterotica where they will put up a link to friends’ shops, but staff never manipulate debate and never attack competitors. Only MV staff do this.)
Starting only 6 minutes after one person posted “ScootRS are a good supplier, no affiliation,” staff piled on with the same old tactics, with the Holy Admin himself waiting only 19 minutes before attempting to bully and undermine the poster, demanding “What are you trying to hide?”
Is that a common question by forum admins if you mildly praise someone, “What are you trying to hide?” Or something you hear only in Scientology or confessionals? Between attacks and bans, no wonder people are afraid to post openly against official dogma there.
Again, exactly as we detailed, the Holy Admin and his apostles justify their fair game tactics by repeating their fact-free delusions that anyone supporting ScootRS is actually us “shilling” behind the scenes. Apparently the Devil is everywhere - and 10,000 mentions around the world were all us in 20 languages. Good god, there are even paranoid admin posts that warn we're about to secretly alter reality any moment now. Ghost stories are great for scaring the uninformed toward friends and overpriced sponsors.
(Long after the admin locked our account, we did actually create a personal account when he asked for feedback “On moderation and personal attacks” and asked why he does nothing when his staff are making all the attacks, but we never hid who we were and openly said so when asked. The Holy Admin avoided the question, deleted posts, banned that account too and quickly locked the thread. So much for church reform. We never returned, despite the ghost stories.)

Proving how dishonestly hypocritical some Modernvespa leaders are, one moderator actually posted that the problem with ScootRS has “nothing to do with [our] business or [our] products. Purely to do with [our] abuse of normal decorum.” However, if you actually verify that and start by searching just one word, you already find 17 posts where this so-called moderator has attacked people as a “lying gouging scumbag,” “lying cheating scumbag,” “scumbag shyster,” “lying scumbag rip-off merchant,” etc., etc. Other ModernVespa moderators post about urinating on “slimeball” competitors and giving them a “morbid, abnormal, incurable flesh eating disease.” And much more, all officially and hypocritically blessed by the Holy Admin as “normal decorum” toward those not paying him money.
In contrast, you can see all of our posts here. The fact is, between July 2007 when we joined and Aug. 2008 when excommunicated as a threat, we made a whopping total of 47 posts, only 3.6 per month, some just asking moderators to stop their attacks. No one with either a spine or a mind is cowed by Church propaganda when they can verify for themselves exactly how people posted.
Here, for example, are the last 4 threads we posted on. (The MV Church secretly deleted our last few where a moderator began posting an attack after every post we made until we asked the Holy Admin several times to review it and he locked our account instead.) Recommending a competitor and MV sponsor must be truly offensive shilling and this final post of ours the one that did it:
A 190 cylinder kit would be vastly easier and cheaper. Why not just do that?
http://www.scooterwest.com/item_detail/Malossi-190cc-kit-ET4LX-150/50/
At the end of the day, what would the difference in engine and headache-dollars be?
Or our penultimate post where someone needed a special item from Vietnam, a cheap little basket:
We could probably do one for you. What did you want to put it on?
Or our 3rd to last, where an MV sponsor attacked us out of the blue because we helped a poster asking about our CDI kits:
What does it have to do with me at all, Jim?
Why so intent on destroying civil discussion?
[And in the same thread:]
>>Don't forget to buy local mate (USA)
So you know, I fully agree with that if you have a local shop in your city - always nice to deal firsthand with real people -, I just don't think it matters at all where you order from if you are ordering foreign-made parts over the internet from another city.
Hmm, could that be the money reason again? An MV sponsor ordering people to buy locally while attacking the evil foreigners? (As he is sanctioned to do repeatedly, recently lying to forum readers about bodged scooters that have nothing to do with us.)
And the 4th to last, a week earlier, which sums up our disdain for the dishonest forum tactics in question:
This is what my email this morning is about?
As I said to the poster, we're not interested in forum dramas. Comments reflect upon yourselves and the forum, not us in any way.
Has no one noticed yet that some here act in the exact same manner as the classic scooter nazis (“Talimericans” if you prefer a clever term) on the BBS that attack this forum and its members constantly, and have virtually destroyed all civil, intelligent discussion there? That's why we rarely post except on the LCGB.
I can't fathom even half the tales I read about us on a couple US forums. [...] I'll leave a tiny clique to post, fact-free, how this reply too is somehow rhetoric, excuses, lack of ethics, name-calling, etc., even as they employ those very tools repeatedly. Who needs civility, language and logic when we have the internet?
Anything wrong there? Or did you see for yourself that the ModernVespa Church is trying to brainwash you?
Though clearly never spamming the forum, to those asking why we didn't take out an ad on ModernVespa, we would gladly have done so as we have elsewhere except when we asked we very unprofessionally got no response at all. Anyway, it was made clear from the beginning by the Holy Admin that he believes in Original Sin, such as when we first joined and had to ask several times to review a nasty post saying we use child labor and he complained to us that we had caused it by our mere presence.
Or as the Holy Admin explicitly told us later, one reason he wouldn't do anything about abuses by his Church staff was because we are not a “real” part of the scootering community - thus denying the world map of scooterists we have served over 10 years:
By the way, here is the expanded post that set the Church elders after the free-thinking heretic:
ScootRS are a good supplier, no affiliation. This forum is starting to sound a little like a church here in NZ, "Destiny Church". Is that guy making fun of Jess or is that his real name, Devine????? Is this a cult or is this a real forum??? I was once at a Moony camp years ago and everyone there was real nice too, should I be worried???
Well, just remember that a few Devine insiders at the ModernVespa Church need to control what you think on some subjects, not let you or unbiased discussion decide. So when you enter, kneel down in front of the Holy Admin, ’cause you gonna do some prayin’, boy. “And you better pray good.”
[Update: MV staff continue to misinform people. How can any info there be trusted while this goes on?]

It's a shame you still see such dishonest tactics as from staff/insiders at the ModernVespa forum in the US who constantly attack Asian shops in order to profit themselves and friends' shops.
Regular forum members are great everywhere and good forums must promote honest unbiased information, so forums do a real disservice when they manipulate debate and force their personal prejudices - economic, racist, or otherwise - upon others, often causing people to badly overpay for things until they find out the truth for themselves. Other US forums were infamous for a few members using such tactics - European forums are more civil -, but you only see forum staff dishonestly manipulating debate at ModernVespa.
Previously the ModernVespa admin, Jess Devine, hypocritically told us he wouldn't do anything when his “moderators” posted bizarre or very creepy attacks on us - one often posts about urinating on people and giving them diseases after he failed to get free items from us - because we hadn't paid him any money as a sponsor. (Can you imagine that as an excuse for manipulating debate? No other forum admins do that.) When we asked the admin simply to apply his own rules consistently, before his moderators caused a bigger problem, he banned us for “threatening” him.

Apparently banning people is common there if you dare question the official (paid) orthodoxy. When we first raised a problem after the admin did nothing about wild personal attacks and claims that we used child labor, he actually told us, while strictly applying forum rules elsewhere, not to respond as that would create an “argument.” In other words, blacks to the back of the bus.
As an example of how dishonestly the ModernVespa admin manipulates the info people see, recently someone posted a logically impossible story about our stealing their Paypal info - retailers never even see that info - on about 6 forums. All forum admins acted very professionally and deleted it entirely within a day. Only the ModernVespa admin, Jess Devine, refused to respond to numerous emails and Twitter notices and has deliberately left up the offending false headline for people to find in searches and such. Of course, if it had been about a paid sponsor you wouldn't see it.
[Update Oct. 22: one decent mod there just removed this after 6 months. Thanks! If only on the same day Modern Vespa sponsor “JimH” wasn't posting false info there yet again and insanely blaming ScootRS for all the bodged Vietnam scooters for sale in the US. Do these people have no shame about deliberately deceiving forum readers?]
And rather than allow people to post freely without intimidation, from the comments forwarded to us you can see that every time we are mentioned there the same 3 or 4 mods/insiders worriedly jump in to try to scare people away. Then maybe lock the thread so no one can contradict them with information! If actual customers respond and compliment us, the admin/mods will often try to undermine them, or - get this - claim it must secretly be us then shamelessly refer back to the story they've made up to justify calling us dishonest! Incredible. Which makes one ask: why are they so afraid of free discussion? No money in it? Chauvinism? Ignorance?

We even get new US customers emailing us about how pleasantly surprised they were with our good quality and service, as though it were completely unexpected. When the sponsors people are bullied towards have lower quality at 2-3 times the price of high quality parts we do inhouse, or don't even have the cool modern Vespa parts we make (leather covers, stainless trim, etc.), it's not surprising that people are a bit shocked after hearing nonsense.
The lesson as always on the internet is: think for yourself and don't be bullied. When people abjure polite logic and use insults and scare tactics to manipulate you, you know they are up to no good.
If you're in the US and a new scooter owner looking for honest feedback, ignore obvious scare tactics, listen to dozens of actual customers, and check forums such as the LCGB or Scooterotica in the UK (or any language forum in Europe, as we're very well known in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, etc.) where the admins and insiders go out of their way to promote honest unbiased information, not force prejudice upon you. Try a small order and see for yourself why we're the fastest growing scooter parts supplier to others in your country.
Or as the Spanish are allowed to freely post on their forums without an inquisition:
- Hola a todos, yo en las ultimas semanas he realizado un par de pedidos a scootRS.com y todo perfecto, rapidos, bien empaquetado y todo el pedido completo, ademas de baratos.
- Gente como esta no hay mucha, hacen nuevos productos, tienen buenos precios, responden y por lo menos lo que yo he comprado es de calidad. Y encima dan explicaciones. Si los Ingleses, Alemanes, y media Europa, por no decir que el mundo entero les compra serĂ¡ por algo no??
[Google translation:]
- Hello everyone, the past few weeks I've done a couple of orders scootRS.com and everything perfect, fast, well packaged and complete the entire order, besides cheap.
- People like this there are not many, make new products, they have good prices, they respond and at least what I've bought is quality. And explanations given above. If the English, German, and half of Europe, not to say the whole world buy from them it is for something, no?
Hopefully one day ModernVespa will allow its members the same freedom.
[UPDATE Nov. 5: see where MV staff prove exactly what we just said.]

We've added 3 more seat covers for the Vespa GTS 300 Super.
You can now get a regular GTS 300 Super seat cover in one of numerous colors. Or a twotone GTS 300 Super sport seat cover in numerous colors. Or a pinstriped GTS 300 Super seat cover, again in numerous colors.
That's on top of the GTS flag seat cover where you can choose your country's flag, or the Mod target, and our GTS 300 Super leather seat cover which at $98 is a tremendous deal over the $500+ Piaggio ones.
Of course, all of these types are also available as Vespa GTS 250 seat covers and Vespa LX seat covers and Vespa ET Seat covers.

We've added a few more stickers for Vespa owners, a Snoopy on a Vespa sticker, and a Vespa happy wasp sticker.
They'd look good on classic or modern Vespas. We also have full body decal sets.
By the way, should we call them decals or stickers? Hmm...

We've added separate Vespa GTS LX ET leather seat cover items to make it easier for people to find them. Previously they were buried as options. They really are a great deal when you compare them to the $500 seat option from Piaggio!
On another note, a customer kindly sent in some info for upgrading to 12v coils on Serveta Motoplat stators. Basically, they fit on the Ducati type with the larger condensor. A photo is included so you know the difference. (The coils fit all Lambretta S3 types.)
If you have info to add to the website, please send it in.

Another day, another great new modern Vespa item. Well, items actually.
First, here's our beautiful new Vespa GTS 250 seat cover, available in various solid colors, and only $33.
These go over the top of your existing seat cover, or replace it completely. The classic dark blue looks great on the silvery-blue GTS. And of course we do a leather seat cover too for not a lot more. (Compare with $500 for a new leather seat from Piaggio!)
And here's something very cool that will make your GTS stand-out: our new 2-tone Vespa GTS 250 sport seat cover, available in various colors along with the white section, and again only $33. A bit hard to tell in the photo, but the dark brown is absolutely beautiful.
Dare we say: get your butt in gear?

Another new modern Vespa item, this time a beautiful Vespa LX seat cover, available in various colors, and only $33.
These go over the top of your existing seat cover, or replace it completely.
The classic oxblood red looks fantastic on a white LX, as would the dark green or dark blue. Try a few colors for your LX150, LX125 or LX50 and change things up.

We sent the wrong LX floor strips to a customer (oops, sorry!) who had also ordered our Vespa LX150 floor mat, LX150 access door, and LX150 fork cover - all in beautiful stainless steel - so we asked for some feedback about our new parts while we corrected the one item for him. A nice reply today:
The fit and finish is better than any other LX parts that I have gotten.
Wow, good to hear!
By the way, we've also recently added some other new items for modern Vespa:
1) LX150 footrest covers in stainless steel, only $14. (And only available from scootRS!)
2) GTS glovebox top covers in stainless steel, only $39. (Elsewhere plastic ones are over $50.)
3) Heavy GTS bar ends in stainless steel, only $19. These are great for stopping front-end vibration. (Much less than half the price elsewhere.)
Check out the new parts page or modern Vespa parts section.

We've added a plug-and-play Vespa LX150 and GTS250 HID headlight system (and variants of both scooters) - or to fit any H4 bulb scooter.
What does “HID” mean?
High Intensity Discharge (HID) systems are much brighter and run cooler than other lights, and last much longer. As per Wikipedia: “Compared with fluorescent and incandescent lamps, HID lamps have higher luminous efficacy since a greater proportion of their radiation is in visible light as opposed to heat. Their overall luminous efficacy is also much higher: they give a greater amount of light output per watt of electricity input.”
HID systems replace the light bulb filament with a capsule of gas. The light is emitted from an arc discharge between two electrodes inside a quartz glass capsule. The light produced more closely approximates the color of natural daylight.
The bulb included is a 8000K, giving a slight bluish look as on high-end cars. Our kit also has a full high-low system, unlike low-end kits which do not.
The best part is the price, only $89 for the full kit!
