Mid-life crisis scooter

One reason to get a scooter:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“He recently moved from Barnes to a penthouse in Clerkenwell, sold the car and bought a Vespa scooter (clearly a mid-life crisis, he says: he's now in his early 40s), which means he can now get into work in a eight-and-a-half minutes.”
eBay scams
Mar. 10, 2004, 7:31 AM
So the rush of eBay scams surges onward. Someone just reported to us that they were sent a photo of one of our scooters by an eBay member (just now suspended):
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello I saw that you have bidded on Vespa GS 160 Scooter 1962 recently. I want to inform you that I have one too and I was wondering if you want to buy it. I am willing to sell this for $1,320.(shipping and handling fees included). I am a registered and serious seller on eBay. If you want I could ask eBay to contact you and certify I am indeed serious and trust worthy.This transaction will also be covered under eBay's Fraud Protection Program ! I don't want to list the unit again because of the scammers on eBay. It is pretty expensive just! Please let me know as soon as possible if you want this or not.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now even the scammers are afraid of scammers???
Last time we had a non-private auction, the bidders were inundated with scam emails. Which begs the question: Why does eBay even allow you to contact another member when you are not involved in a transaction together (you bidding on their item, or they on yours)? Wouldn't disallowing “extra-curricular” contacts not solve the problem?
Cold Weather Challenge
Mar. 1, 2004, 8:14 PM
The Cold Weather Challenge winner is in, and it turned out to be a scooter customer of ours:
R.J. Neumeister, -14 F, 11.8 miles:
I just finished my ride on my 2000 Honda Helix with sidecar here in balmy Platteville Wisconsin. It was -14 F by the Anchorbank Time and Temperature sign. It was about midnight January 30/31 and I scootered 11.8 miles with a top speed of 45 mph. I used my sidecar scooter because of the snow and ice on the roads here. Usually I favor my 1995 Yamaha Riva 125 for my cold weather riding. I have other scooters as well but these two are the ones I use the most in the cold weather months. I ride all year round because it's more fun than driving my truck. I'll be riding again tomorrow but we are supposed to get a warming trend over the next few days.
Read about all the craziness.
Scooter jackets and riding clothes
Feb. 22, 2004, 7:44 PM
We've added a new category for scootering jackets and riding clothes. First up are some top quality IXS and Vanucci touring jackets at very low prices. We have ladies’ models as well.
Most items, only one unit of stock, so don't wait.
°°
Quite a coincidence. Our World News section just picked up a story that reads in part:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There has been a rise in the number of scooter-related accidents, mostly, it has to be said, in the fashionable Hoxton and Shoreditch areas of north London. The problem appears to have arisen because young trendsetters have been wearing inappropriate clothing as they’ve ridden around on their re-conditioned Vespas.

So there you go, get a jacket!

Thumbnails
Feb. 15, 2004, 6:14 PM

We changed the way the parts pages display a few things. You now click the thumbnail and get a popup of a larger image. Also if the product name is a colored link, click it for more info on the item (if it isn't, there is no more info). That should reduce hits to the database.

Refresh the page to get the new stylesheet if the parts pages appear with huge titles. It will look normal again after that.

A passing whale
Feb. 4, 2004, 1:09 AM

Recall the guy who was clotheslined below? Well, better to be him than this guy who had a passing whale leak all over his scooter.

Actually, it's a tough call, isn't it?

Fantastic delivery time
Feb. 3, 2004, 3:46 PM

Nice email today:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I ordered a carb from you on 27/01/04. It is the first time I have used you and was wary of ordering from so far away. Parts arrived on 03/02/04, very good quality, fantastic delivery time and good price. I would not hesitate to order from you again (saving for exhaust and disc brake!!)
Great, thanks!
Chuc Mung Nam Moi!
Jan. 22, 2004, 11:32 AM
Recycling last year's post:
Chuc Mung Nam Moi!
Fireworks on the river last night, huge crowds, then scootering through the dark streets after midnight, with sparks flying towards you from burning incense and the new year's luck people were shepherding home from the crowded pagodas.
And, of course, we should probably also mention li xi, Ong Tao, the kitchen god, why you don't want a single pregnant woman showing up at the house today, and...
We will be closed until the 27th in Vietnam for Tet (New Years). If you pay online you can still get North American orders shipped normally.
