Clotheslined
Jan. 14, 2004, 9:28 AM

That would be pretty funny if a guy on a scooter wasn't paying attention leaving a parking lot and drove straight into the exit's lowered gate and was clotheslined, now wouldn't it?

Cold Weather Challenge
Jan. 6, 2004, 11:00 PM

The rules:

1) Must be on a scooter or moped. no motorcycles.
2) Must be a continuous ride of 10 miles or more. no logging miles thru a day.
3) distance is in miles and temp is in deg F.
4) no wind chill temps. Just the real temperature as indicated by a good source (weather channel, internet)
5) contest ends Feb. 28
6) coldest temp wins. so if you go 100 miles in 20 deg and somebody does 10 miles in 19 deg the 19 deg wins. If 2 people have the same temp the longer distance wins.
7) this is just for fun so if you want to lie it's upto you. If somebody sends me an email saying they did 10 miles in 15 deg in Florida I'll know somethings up.
8) it must be a ride you just did. don't email me telling me how last year you rode in really cold weather. Must be from 11/27/03-02/28/04

Why, of course, it's the 2004 Cold Weather Challenge. And be sure to check out the alien entrant.

Shipping
Jan. 2, 2004, 11:17 PM

It's possible we've gone completely insane, slipped a decimal, and this is all horribly wrong, but after some more re-coding and some new rate tables for North American stock shipping, shipping:

–to the USA drops 33%
–to Canada drops 40%
–to UK and elsewhere drops 40%

We've also added an extra worldwide service from North America, namely UPS Expedited which takes a day or two longer than Express but is cheaper.

Again, this is only for shipping from North America.

Amor Fati
Jan. 1, 2004, 1:01 AM

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I still live, I still think: I still have to live, for I still have to think. Sum, ergo cogito: cogito, ergo sum. Today everybody permits himself the expression of his wish and his dearest thought; hence I, too, shall say what it is that I wish from myself today, and what was the first thought to run across my heart this year — what thought shall be for me the reason, warranty, and sweetness of my life henceforth. I want to learn more and more to see as beautiful what is necessary in things; then I shall be one of those who make things beautiful. Amor Fati: let that be my love henceforth! I do not want to wage war against what is ugly. I do not want to accuse; I do not even want to accuse those who accuse. Looking away shall be my only negation. And all in all and on the whole: some day I wish to be only a Yes-sayer.”
Hunter S. Thompson is afraid and loathing in Vietnam
Dec. 23, 2003, 7:49 PM
Pop quiz.
Given the distorted, shrill noise leaking into all corners of your home from across the canal:
a) Hunter S. Thompson is afraid and loathing in Vietnam, or
b) the “asshole-of-the-earth” scene from Apocalypse Now! is being re-enacted (“There's no CO here.”), or finally
c) a church somewhere over there just purchased a lot of wine and is pushing a cheap karaoke system to its celestial limits in celebration of their lord's b-day
Hmmm. It's all quite possible, really. Might have to go investigate. Any which way, there's bound to be free drinks...
One-wheeled Ducati
Nov. 16, 2003, 11:11 AM
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although Bombardier says the gyroscopes are enough to balance the Embrio, the vehicle is also kept longitudinally stable by a smaller wheel that operates like an airplane's landing gear. It touches the ground when the vehicle is stopped or just starting. Once the Embrio is in motion, the landing gear will retract when the vehicle reaches about 12 mph. During braking, the gear redeploys when the vehicle slows to 12 mph.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That should pique your interest. Take a look at the photos of this nifty machine that looks like a one-wheeled Ducati.
