Shopcam
Mar. 18, 2003, 3:11 PM

Ye olde shopcam is back.

-And people ask if we are busy.

We mentioned before that we now have cheaper shipping to the UK and US via EMS 5 day service. We didn't realize at first that the price is now 25-35% cheaper! For example, 5kgs to the UK used to be $80 - now $54. 10kgs to the USA used to be $171 - now $121. (Canada and a few countries went up, but can't win them all.)

Scooter tech
Mar. 16, 2003, 4:03 PM

We've added a new item to the Tech page. We've grouped all the similar models for Lambretta and Vespa so you can figure out a little better what model to order parts for.

Any corrections to be made, let us know.

Trojan Vespa
Mar. 11, 2003, 8:37 AM

Well, you won't be wearing a Trojan while riding your new Vespa, it seems. The clever condom/Vespa promotion has been cancelled. See the story in our Scooter News section today.

Odysseus and the Minotaur
Mar. 8, 2003, 1:37 PM

In our previous lesson on mythology we discussed the Hyperboreans and the journey to the Blessed Isles. Today's lesson concerns someone's recent journey toward a scooter purchase, and the tales about scootRS that he was told by an Italian exporter and some suppliers and sellers of Italian imports in the US and UK, thus more so Odysseus and the Minotaur:

1) In Vietnam there is a law that scooters cannot move between provinces and therefore the scooters here have all been cut in half to get around this.
-Uhhhh, no. (But, hey, isn't that the law in Italy? Yeah, we heard that somewhere. Yeah, tell your friends...)

2) The Lambrettas in Vietnam are not Innocenti.
-Uhhhh, no. They are Innocenti and were all imported new from Italy in the 1950s and 60s, same as in any other country.

3) People get unrestored motors when ordering restored motors from us.
-Uhhhh, no. That one they like to repeat even though they know it is false, continually pointing to some unrestored motor from years ago as “proof”. Why they think the same logic doesn't apply to their unrestored motors, we can't fathom. Why they think they know more than Scootering Magazine, we can't fathom either. Choose the “all-new” motor parts option when ordering and that is what you get. Period.

4) The SX200 we sell have fake panels.
-Uhhhh, no. We used to state clearly on the SX200 page that we would use re-shaped TV panels if we didn't have original SX200 panels onhand. That was removed long ago after we collected enough originals to ensure that every SX200 would have them. We also have brand new SX200 panels made in the UK if you like.

Moral of this mythology? If you are interested in reality, read our website, ask us any questions, or speak directly to actual customers, not star gazers.

Refresh
Mar. 7, 2003, 2:05 PM

We've changed around a few things to make the site a bit clearer.

If you don't see the three symbols of the apocalypse on the service menu at the top left (the cart, the pencil, and the question mark), hit refresh to obtain the revelation. The “?” will take you to the help pages.

Shipping
Feb. 28, 2003, 3:26 PM

The changes come in bunches here. Now Airborne has raised courier charges by adding a 5.1% fuel surcharge. Hopefully that will be temporary. Why EMS to many countries goes down while Airborne goes up is not for us mortals to question.

Oh: we've also spiffed up the bookmarks functionality for you with a bit of magic.

Shipping
Feb. 27, 2003, 12:18 PM

We now have cheaper shipping on EMS 5 day service to many countries including the US, UK, Australia, etc., though it went up for a couple others including Canada.

A “coalition of the willing,” we guess.

Vespa Trojan
Feb. 26, 2003, 10:30 AM

If you are a fan of our Scooter News section below, you'll have seen the story about Vespa teaming up with Trojan condoms. A must read, and be sure to check out the clever “Let's Get it On” and “Ride Safely” ads they've come up with.

We're really enjoying the Scooter News aggragator. Seems to be working quite well after a little tune-up. Interesting to see the contexts in which “Vespa” pops up. And notice how few mentions there are of Lambretta.
