Customers
Jan. 7, 2003, 5:07 PM

Well, they look happy with the result, don't they?

In a rare event, today we had some customers stop by the shop as they were passing through the country. They were thus able to check out their scooter before it is shipped off. Always nice to kick the tires and take it for a spin before you receive it, even if it involves flying halfway across the world to do so.

Quiet American
Dec. 27, 2002, 2:38 PM

It was fun to go see the Quiet American the other night, right here where it was filmed, and with someone who is actually in the film. Our good friend is the photographer in the film. In his one line, Michael Caine asks him what they've got him working on, and he says, "Oh, some cockamamie scheme." An explosion occurs and he runs around taking pictures. Another friend who lost the photographer role claims to have spotted himself in the background, but we'll have to leave that unsettled until the DVD appears.

Review? An enjoyable film, and no glaring faults, though not as fleshed out as it might have been. Michael Caine is very good, but Brendan Fraser appears to be acting in a skit, not a movie. He only has one speech, when outed as a CIA agent by Michael Caine, that is good. It's a shame someone else isn't in the role, and the part wasn't more developed. Gary Oldman, perhaps? The lighting in the outdoor Saigon scenes is also terrible, and in sad contrast to the nice indoor shots. You don't really see much of Saigon, come to think of it, just the main square and a few house shots that could have been done elsewhere. Also some brief but spectacular northern scenery.

Well, go and see it for Michael Caine, and to see the nice main square we ride through most every day. -And for the photographer, of course.

Cheap scooters
Dec. 25, 2002, 8:21 AM

Wouldn't it be nice if Santa declared that scooters would henceforth be cheap and plentiful and everyone would have one?

Hmmm, have to think about that one...

ziggy.com
Dec. 8, 2002, 9:17 PM

If you look way down, you'll see we've added a section with links to recent news stories about Lambretta or Vespa scooters. Enjoy. The only unfortunate aspect is that many newspapers now want you to register to view their stories. Gee, we hope they don't send too many announcements to us at ziggy@ziggy.com.

°°

Hmmm. We just realized there probably is a ziggy at ziggy.com...
