Miss Uyen
Oct. 11, 2002, 3:36 PM

Miss Uyen, whom you may know from answering your emails here at scootRS, is leaving the company after several years. She was with us from almost the beginning, was a great employee, and we'd like to wish her well in her new job. Her replacement will be Ms. Vui, which means “happy,” so hopefully that's a good sign as to how the changeover will go.

Today we all went for lunch. A photo below of Uyen and her going away present, along with a few words from the lady herself:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'd like to say thanks for all my boss and my colleagues have done for me, and all the nice words from our customers. It makes me so happy. I'll miss you. You can contact me anytime on my new cell phone. ;-)
Jack on a Vespa
Oct. 9, 2002, 10:52 AM
We had Starbucks with a Lambretta below, now we have Jack on a Vespa. It appears as though Jack were cut off and is voicing his road-rage displeasure. -Just an interpretation.
Logo
Oct. 3, 2002, 11:09 AM
You might notice that our logo has changed slightly from “ScootrS” to “scootRS” so as to emphasize the pronunciation: scoot RS. The old way was confusing. When we finally get around to the new site design we'll have a better logo.
3rd World internet test
Sep. 14, 2002, 8:20 PM
Take the test:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Five times out of ten when connecting to the internet you get an “All telephone lines are busy” message from the phone company. You highly doubt that all telephone lines are busy, but, nonetheless, they insist it is so.

2) Three times out of ten when connecting to the internet you actually connect, but then no data will transfer and you cannot even send email. You have time to calculate that it would be faster to fly to a neighboring country and transfer the data from there.

3) One time out of ten when connecting to the internet you actually connect, but then, when updating a file on the website, the line suddenly dies, hobbling your site. When the line works again hours later - after a power outage that tried to destroy your hard drive - you receive eighteen emails saying, "Dude, your site's down. I wanted to order, but this doesn't seem very professional..."

4) Ten times out of ten when connecting to the internet you are grotesquely overcharged by the minute such that your bill is five times higher than in the West for one twentieth the service. When you phone to ask why the ISP doesn't have a monthly rate, the line is busy. -If you reach them and complain, they hang up on you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you nodded yes to the above, or broke out in tears, it is quite likely you are living in a Third World country. Look out your window. Do you see palm trees? Soup sellers? An old man in his pyjamas on a scooter carrying 38 chickens? Is bad karaoke leaking out of your neighbor's house? Are pretty girls wandering by with fresh fruit, open hearts, and bright smiles?
My friend: welcome.
New Photo Library
Sep. 3, 2002, 12:05 AM
OK, we've added a whole new Photo Library system. Pretty cool. You can search restorations by model, color, or ID.
The photo viewer itself is fairly nifty and can be dragged around. Works best in Mozilla, of course. Internet Explorer loads the images a bit strangely, but then you're not still using IE, are you??? Haven't seen it on a Mac yet, so let us know if any issues for 5+ browsers. It doesn't work at all in ancient relics like Netscape 4, though they can still see thumbnails.
Couple tweaks needed, but check it out.
VLB customer
Aug. 30, 2002, 2:12 PM
What's the secret to building a client base? Emails like this one about a recent VLB:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's so much fun. You provide an excellent scooter at a great price. My friends and coworkers can't believe it is 33 years old. It looks and runs like its brand new. I have recommended you to all of them.

I had to have it appraised for insurance purposes. It was assessed a “Fair Market Value” of $6,000. My only regret at this point is not buying 3. Living in California, I could easily sell the other 2 for $4500 each and covered the price of the third.

Thanks for everything.
