Shredder?
Aug. 29, 2001, 2:54 PM

Well that was exciting! We reported earlier that Customs in one Canadian city refused to believe that one scooter sent there was not new. After they refused to accept the serial number records at both the LCGB site and scooterhelp.com as proof, and a known scooter expert as an expert, things looked bad:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a brighter note, the woman said the scoot was 'a beautiful looking machine' before adding that it would be a shame to see it go through the 'shredder.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yikes! Copies of book pages showing the year were sent, more docs, and then today we received this:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well I'm happy to inform you that my scoot has finally arrived!!! Yippee!!! I uncrated the 'ol girl this afternoon and spent the better part of the evening ripping around the block (I have to safety and licence it tomorrow morn). I had only previously ridden Honda automatics so it took a bit of
getting used to. The supervisor at customs was happy to get it out of the warehouse as more and more agents were bringing their cameras to work in order to capture the wondrous beast on film (or so the story goes according to my broker). Everything is as it was supposed to be (except for the St. George shield badge I ordered which is nowhere to be found. no matter though I'm just relieved to finally have my scoot). Thanks again for going to bat for me when things looked so very grim. I've been fielding questions from
curiosity seekers in the neighborhood all day. I can't imagine what will happen when I take it beyond the boundary of my street. I guess I'll find out this (long)weekend. Thanks again for all your help and expertise and for a job well done!! I look forward to doing business with you folks again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

An extremely rare hassle, but all's well that ends well. -Check the toolbox for the badge, by the way. Or maybe Customs kept a souvenir and we need to send another...?

Electric start Lambretta LI
Aug. 24, 2001, 12:06 PM

An LIS200 with special badging is very cool. But then came the brainwave: we added an electric start system just as you would see on a new scooter. Of course you can use the kickstart, but there is no need anymore unless the battery is dead. Just push the red button neatly attached below the light switch, and the motor kicks in. And don't worry about reliability: the sytem is perfectly built in as it might have come from the factory and uses a starter motor that can easily be replaced if it ever fails. Our mechanic invented this design and we have been perfecting it for some time now. This scooter features the result and is, we assume, the ONLY electric start Series 3 Lambretta in the USA. Awesome, and only available in all the world from scootRS.

Scooter near the roof of the US Consulate
Apr. 5, 2001, 9:20 PM

Remember the famous picture of the helicopter on the roof of the US Consulate in Saigon 1975? That building was torn down the other year in favor of a new, smaller consulate and the extra land was recently made over into a very nice green space for the staff. -A rarity in this city. Here is a photo taken yesterday when we dropped off a scooter we just finished for a soon-to-return ex-pat. Kind of fun driving the scooter over such famous ground thinking that, even in 1975, this scooter was already 10 years old! Wonder where it was on that very day as the last helicopter left…

Incredibly busy. SX200 to the left of me, VBB's to my right. Here's an LIS200, stuck in the middle for you.

The boat has left the building. New parts gently float their way towards you as you sleep…
