The latest and greatest
Feb. 14, 2008, 9:01 AM

We're open again. We're now sorting through a thousand emails and all the new orders. Your patience is appreciated, s'il vous plait.

These guys are offering you the greatest scooter experience in June at Camber Sands and want you to be aware of that now.

The big Las Vegas Scooter Rally is actually starting right now, 14th-18th, and scootRS has supplied a few goodies for prizes, including two tuned exhausts, one for Vespa and one for Lambretta.

A nice email arrived the other day:

I just want to say how happy I am with your product. I ordered a Vespa seat in black leather with cream trimming, and it's absolutely everything I imagined it to be! Perfect! The construction is first rate, it looks fantastic on my black Vespa PX200, and the delivery was very quick - only a few days to Australia. Thanks you very much!

Testing our restored scooters
Nov. 26, 2007, 7:38 PM

Lambretta GPs and a Vespa VBB Some shopcam photos for you from the other day by the receiving/delivery door. We had been testing and taking photos of two Lambretta GP scooters we just finished restoring.

Although they look identical, one big difference between scootRS and all the Indian scooter resellers (above and beyond our higher quality because we're not a bulk reseller) is that each one is customized exactly as you want it. For example, both customers wanted a fairly stock look, but one wanted a TS1 engine while the other wanted a push-button electric start 200cc, an innovation of ours reviewed in Scootering previously. No need to kickstart! Each GP came with a tuned exhaust, 30mm carb, and our disc brake kit. The polished panel grills we do inhouse are also very nice.

Actually, as you can see in the second photo, we were also testing a Vespa VBB we just finished. Again, unlike the plain-Jane Indian ones, this one has a fantastic paint job and looks great with our drop sides seat. It has an original Italian engine case with all new engine parts but we added a reed-valve and used our 24mm PWK carb and tuned exhaust. Wow, this little VBB is certainly not demure when you roll the throttle!

Also, all three scooters were ordered with our tubeless rims, a very good safety option.

Vespa striped Corsa seat
Nov. 15, 2007, 7:49 AM

Vespa striped Corsa seat We just had it pointed out to us that our Vespa striped Corsa seat didn't even list black as an option for the base color. Given that the main photo is black with a white stripe, that didn't make much sense.

We've fixed that and for $79 you can now look sleek and racy in black and white as originally intended.

I'll take your 7 miles and raise you 114
Sep. 12, 2007, 10:48 AM

The 7 original mile Rally auction we reported earlier went for only $6000 as suspected. Now along comes a cooler 1966 Vespa SS180 auction, with 121 original miles.

This scooter is not even broken in yet. I bought this last week from my neighbor who is the original owner. He parked this 41 years ago and has not had it out of the garage since. This Vespa is in great condition with some scratches on it but no dents. Everything on this scooter, according to my neighbor, is original. He even had the windshield that still has the protective film on it.

It's a shame the guy who found it didn't want to keep it, but no doubt the next owner will. This should go for decent money, but we'll find out how much it's really worth when the auction ends on the 21st.

Vespa Rally 200 with 7 original miles!
Sep. 6, 2007, 7:21 AM

It's not often you see a scooter like this. It's a 1974, so not ancient and has hideous turn signals, but only 7 original miles on a Rally 200 is quite amazing.

And now it is up for auction to the highest bidder. We'll bet it doesn't actually go for all that much, but we'll find out Sept. 9th.

Silver Vespa VLB Sprint for $3,099
Sep. 1, 2007, 2:59 PM

Vespa VLB Sprint 5-port reed-valve We finally added some photos of the silver Vespa VLB Sprint we have ready-to-go except for doing the new 5-port reed-valve engine. You can still make a few changes if you like.

At only $3,099 with that engine, done inhouse by us, it's a tremendous deal compared to all the outsourced and/or outright bodged Vietnam/India scooters out there. And currently it's the only one we have that will let you leapfrog our scooter restoration wait a bit, so don't wait yourself if interested.

Scooter cover-up
Jul. 19, 2007, 8:37 PM

Finishing a Lambretta A quick shopcam photo of a Lambretta scooter we're finishing up right now.

Vespa cover We've added a couple more nice light waterproof scooter covers with logo for both Vespa and Lambretta. We're always shocked to see the $50+ prices places ask for covers overseas. We've done these ourselves and they are only $9! Great for around the house or for throwing in your glovebox in case it rains. We have a few types now to choose from, which the link above will bring up for you.

Calling all LML - Stella owners
Apr. 28, 2007, 2:11 PM

We've added a number of LML (Stella) parts recently, from pistons and gasket to electrical parts. Not to mention we have complete reed-valve engines, as well as a few performance add-ons.

By the way, we will be closed in Asia until Wednesday for holidays here.

Vespa T5 and Lambretta parts at half price
Jan. 7, 2007, 1:26 PM

Hope everyone's holidays went well.

T5 indicator lenses We've just added some indicator (turn signal) lenses for T5 in amber and clear for only $5.75. Just a few of our Vespa T5 scooter parts that might interest you.

Lambretta mudflapFor Lambrettas, we have an original style gray rubber mudflap. As usual, our price of only $3.75 is about half of what others charge. We've also added a 20mm air hose for those of you still running an original carb, made inhouse by us along with our 22mm hose. We made it because the Indian ones are terrible and the Italian are, as always, grossly overpriced. Ours are excellent quality, as good or better than Italian, and only $5, less than half the price elsewhere!

See our new parts page for details.

Fix your seat, and get a grip
Dec. 13, 2006, 10:56 AM

double seat springs and rubber So, along with a double seat springs kit for your Lambretta, you can now get the double seat rubber stops as well (the two rubber bits in the photo that will rest on the seat post area). These also fit Vespa double seats, ours at least. At ScootRS, they're only $2.50 a set. Others sell this replacement rubber for 5 times as much!

What are you waiting for? Get both items for your seat and make it like new over the Winter. (A new cover wouldn't hurt either!)

So, we saw a delivery guy riding a Vespa VBB the other week and stopped him. He said his boss had a couple. Got the number, boss said he had no idea about them, he just used them for delivery. Phoned back a couple times and he still didn't know what he wanted for them so we finally drove out to see him way, way out in Hicksville. Check them out. Numbers OK. VBC/VLB rear lights need to be changed. One has a VBC headset, but that can be changed. Assume we have to replace all internal parts on both engines because worn out and restore from top to bottom (standard practice for us). Make a decent offer...

He suddenly says he wants $6500 for one and a bit less for the other because he's heard that's what they sell for overseas.

We try to explain how insane that is. We leave 4 minutes later.

It's true: it's not here yet, but the end of Vietnam scooters is nigh. We will likely not be buying any more scooters, just relying on our (thankfully large) warehouse to fill orders.
