Vietnam Lunar New Year's 2009 staff party
Jan. 25, 2009, 11:21 AM

scootRS 2009 staff party As you've hopefully figured out from the notice, we're closed for Vietnam Tet (Lunar New Year's) for another week.

Here are a few shots of the scootRS factory as we closed down the other day. After paying the big year-end bonuses we proceeded to our staff party. (Nothing like bonuses to put people in a party mood.) Each year the table keeps getting longer; this year you can barely see to the end.

And apparently this is what happens when the female staff at one end of the table win all the raffle prizes involving alcohol:

Buffering you from overpriced Lambretta parts
Jan. 22, 2009, 6:46 AM

Time to start saving money by buying smarter, isn't it? “Buy needlessly expensive, pay twice,” as the saying should go.

Here are a few more Lambretta parts you'd normally have to buy via Italian exporters at ridiculously high prices, but which are now newly made inhouse here at ScootRS at the same or better quality to save you money:

Fork buffer The fork buffers from Italy are nice, while the ones from India and Vietnam are a bit rough. We've remade both the large and small ones for you in good quality but at half the price of the Italian ones.

Series 1-2 Panel buffers We found the Series 1-2 panel buffers that a few Italian resellers sell were poorly made from such a hard rubber they were a nightmare to fit and, of course, badly overpriced to boot. Ours are much better quality, a special flexible rubber and, yet again, half the price, just $4.75 a set!

Bridge rubber rear To add to our continuing replacement of overpriced Italian rubber, we've now made the Series 3 rear bridge rubber - and also the S1-2 rear bridge rubber. Only $2.25 each.

Lambretta tool roll Lambretta toolroll clip Along with our original-style tool roll for less than half the Italian one, you can even get the little tool roll clip to keep it in place. If you guessed that it too is half the Italian price, you're starting to get the idea.

LD fork link covers stainless steel One last telling example of this theme: the LD fork link covers from Casa Lambretta are over $50! From us, in beautiful long-lasting stainless steel, they are only $12.50/set.

We've also just added alloy cable ties to wrap up that resto, and a dual seat strap end cap in stainless steel to tidy up an old seat. And many other new parts as well.

Is it any wonder we sell so much to Italy these days, both to shops and individuals? Just two quotes recently:

I hope to become your customer for long time. Some of my friends are your customer too. We really need in Italy people as you are. Thank you so much.
Hi guys, I'm Italian so I'm writing from the mother country of Vespa, but let me say that you are really the best I found during the restoration of my scooter.

Stop wasting your money on badly overpriced Italian scooter parts when you can get the same or better for half the price! Many parts from Italy are very good, but many are also actually sourced from India or Vietnam for resale by Italian exporters with a huge markup - or, in any case, simply are not as good as others out there, especially for the price. (Our floor strips, for example, are MUCH better quality than the ragged Italian ones exported by Casa/MecEur/etc., and still much cheaper.)

Not convinced? Try a small order and see for yourself.

Shipping and blogging
Jan. 15, 2009, 6:35 AM

Every bit helps these days. We've added some better shipping rates for heavier shipments passing along savings of 15% and more! We've also extended the cheaper heavy courier service down to 21 kilos so you can save even more there too. (And the site automatically gives you the cheaper courier service whenever we calculate a shipment is cheaper at the minimum heavy rate than at the standard rate, so it might kick in as low as 15 kilos or so depending your country. Get a Givi top case and fill it up with parts.)

On another note, we've also fixed up the blog a little to add categories at the bottom of each post. You can now view Roadkill entries by your favorite scooter category. So very 2002.

Vespa GTS 250 seat cover - leather too!
Jan. 10, 2009, 1:50 PM

Vespa GTS 250 sport seat cover

Vespa GTS250 seat cover Another day, another great new modern Vespa item. Well, items actually.

First, here's our beautiful new Vespa GTS 250 seat cover, available in various solid colors, and only $33.

These go over the top of your existing seat cover, or replace it completely. The classic dark blue looks great on the silvery-blue GTS. And of course we do a leather seat cover too for not a lot more. (Compare with $500 for a new leather seat from Piaggio!)

Vespa GTS250 sport seat cover And here's something very cool that will make your GTS stand-out: our new 2-tone Vespa GTS 250 sport seat cover, available in various colors along with the white section, and again only $33. A bit hard to tell in the photo, but the dark brown is absolutely beautiful.

Dare we say: get your butt in gear?

Vespa LX seat cover
Jan. 5, 2009, 8:54 AM

Vespa LX seat cover Another new modern Vespa item, this time a beautiful Vespa LX seat cover, available in various colors, and only $33.

These go over the top of your existing seat cover, or replace it completely.

The classic oxblood red looks fantastic on a white LX, as would the dark green or dark blue. Try a few colors for your LX150, LX125 or LX50 and change things up.

The best modern Vespa parts?
Jan. 1, 2009, 11:32 AM

We sent the wrong LX floor strips to a customer (oops, sorry!) who had also ordered our Vespa LX150 floor mat, LX150 access door, and LX150 fork cover - all in beautiful stainless steel - so we asked for some feedback about our new parts while we corrected the one item for him. A nice reply today:

The fit and finish is better than any other LX parts that I have gotten.

Wow, good to hear!

Vespa GTS bar ends By the way, we've also recently added some other new items for modern Vespa:

1) LX150 footrest covers in stainless steel, only $14. (And only available from scootRS!)

2) GTS glovebox top covers in stainless steel, only $39. (Elsewhere plastic ones are over $50.)

3) Heavy GTS bar ends in stainless steel, only $19. These are great for stopping front-end vibration. (Much less than half the price elsewhere.)

Check out the new parts page or modern Vespa parts section.
