The Last Blacksmith on Blacksmith Street
Nov. 25, 2010, 7:48 AM

From the NYTimes, a video about “The Last Blacksmith on Blacksmith Street” in the old quarter of Hanoi, Vietnam.

The story gives you some notion of how things have changed here, though Ho Chi Minh City where we are is much more developed and cosmopolitan than Hanoi. Here's the newest addition to the HCMC skyline from above, or below.

Countdown: regular $139, he got it for only $72.35
Nov. 18, 2010, 7:37 PM

Ramon from Spain got a fantastic deal on a Lambretta tuned exhaust: regular $139, he got it for only $72.35 as our last Countdown item.

And that brought up our current Countdown item, a set of red rubber for a Vespa VBB. Currently $43.21 and falling...

Our first Countdown item winner
Nov. 16, 2010, 7:33 AM

Well, that was exciting! Our first Countdown item went up the other day, a Vespa tuned exhaust, and the price went down steadily all day every day until... Marcos from Argentina couldn't wait any more and snapped it up at $97.97 as people elsewhere slept.

That's a good discount off the regular $139 for that item. Congratulations.

And then the next Countdown item went up, another tuned exhaust but this time for Lambretta S2. Again, only very slightly used and regular $139. It's currently sitting at $124.84. And falling...

Take a look at our Countdown item on our New Parts page and check back often to see what items go up. It is automated so prices change 24 hours a day and you never know when a new item will come up after someone around the world snaps up the previous item.

We're just as excited as you are to check in on this monster we've created and see what's going on!

Be a Big Easy winner
Nov. 14, 2010, 6:46 PM

Here's a photo of the scooter restored for and given away at the New Orleans Big Easy Rally last year.

The winning scooter

ScootRS donated some Vespa parts for the restoration and they wrote back:

That scooter went on to its winner and she brought that scoot to Amerivespa in San Antonio, TX, this past May where it won best 60’s/70’s custom restoration. This was a huge thrill for our club and it could not have been done without your support.

This year Amerivespa is coming to New Orleans and our club will play host. We have decided to restore another scoot for the Amerivespa raffle. It is a 1974 Super that was flooded in Hurricane Katrina.

No doubt this time too it will be another beautiful scooter brought back to life.

Another convert to tubeless rims
Nov. 10, 2010, 3:16 PM

Someone sent in a comment posted on a forum:

Have a set of ScooRS mild steel rims: no probs. either, and these have had 3 tyre changes and a fresh coat of paint.

Would now only use tubeless rims for safety reasons after seeing a blow out on a two up T5. It was coming back from Margate in the 80s, the scooter somersaulted between two oncomming cars, the lads lived, but trust me a split second either way and they would be playing harps now!

Here are our tubeless rims for Lambretta and Vespa if you want to read more about them.

Molding our parts mould area
Nov. 3, 2010, 3:35 PM

We've been reorganizing the factory to make more room for needed expansion.

We managed to double stack all the remaining unrestored scooter stock better and gain another 5 meters of floor space. That allowed us to move the scooter restoration section over and use the current scooter parking area to store all of our little molds. (Or “moulds” for those in the UK.) So now we have this area:

Scooter parts mold storage area

All of these little molds are used for making various items. You can see about half of them! And then there are the really big ones in another area.

Now we just have to knock down a wall and expand the seat-making area, redo the polishing and grinding area, redo the employee washroom/shower area, extend the roof to expand the welding area, and, and, and... All to keep some 50 year old scooters on the road :-)

Feedback on our new Lambretta S2 floor strips
Nov. 1, 2010, 6:52 PM

We often ask for feedback on new items and today asked for some on our new Lambretta S2 floor strips and got back the following replies so far:

Lambretta S2 floor strips

They are very good. Very well finished.

---

They look and feel quite good and they do fit the holes in the floor!

And from one shop owner:

Far better quality than the Indian repro ones I've had, good colour.

9/10, well done.

Only $19.95.
