Roadkill: March 2005

More on More Info
Mar. 23, 2005, 4:26 PM

We've finally cleaned up the “More Info” page when reading about a scooter product. It has a gallery feature now, so we can easily inundate you with photos. A few more tweaks might be forthcoming, but now looks quite tidy, at least in Firefox, Opera 8, IE6. (If your browser thinks otherwise, let us know by sending in a screenshot along with your browser type and version.)

A few more features will be added shortly as well, as soon as our fingers are rested...

San Francisco scooter daze
Mar. 21, 2005, 8:41 PM

Recent love letter from the city of love, San Francisco:
I am writing this email to express my absolute satisfaction with your replacement parts, customer service and technical assistance. I recently installed your tuned exhaust and carburetor kit PWK-type 28/30mm 150/175cc. After adjusting the carburetor settings and jets per your excellent instructions, I was amazed at what this upgrade has done for my 64 Lambretta Li Special 150. A few years ago I replace the stock piston and bored it out to 175 cc as well as expanded the intake and exhaust ports but this did very little to increase performance. After visiting your web site and reading your advise on exhaust and carburetor upgrades, I decided to give it a try. The results are unbelievable. I mean this scooter flies like never before and is almost scary fast. It performs more like a 250 cc motor and sounds bad ass as it screams down the street. [...] Thanks so much for all your help and advise.
That's a great combo, glad you like it.

It blowed up real good
Mar. 19, 2005, 10:00 AM

You know it's a bad day when...
Heidi Brown was told she could park her new scooter outside the vehicle registration office while she waited to get number plates.

To her horror, it was blown up by the army after someone reported that it might be a bomb.

Police in Ipswich confirmed on Thursday that a moped had been blown up in a controlled explosion after local business people “raised concerns” that it could be a bomb.

CBC Radio has no scooters
Mar. 15, 2005, 7:16 PM

Have to mention: the great CBC Radio 3 is featuring four issues, including their last one, while they redesign the website for a new format. If you've never been there, take a look, it's one of the best on the web. Lots of click and explore...

Scooter videos
Mar. 14, 2005, 9:31 AM

Here's another old scooter video, this one an ad for a Vespa GS160. (WMP)

A few more more scooter videos here, including an old Lambretta commercial, apparently showing how they put together the scooter at the factory.

Scooter racing video
Mar. 10, 2005, 9:55 AM

An old newsreel video about racing around Italy in the 1950s on Vespa scooters. (Windows Media 10 only, we think.)

Straight off the menu
Mar. 8, 2005, 5:09 PM

Another site tune-up: refresh the page to get the latest files, and you'll see the menu now opens when clicking on folders and will highlight the page you go to.

Exciting stuff, huh?

We also have some new scooter parts to list this week if you care about that sort of thing...

Flying scooters
Mar. 1, 2005, 10:34 AM

You'll have to go read about this one:
The Ultralight Scooter Aircraft/Street Machine is the world's first flying scooter and is considered an Ultra Light Aircraft by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in America, meaning that an FAA pilots license is not required for this single seat aircraft. You can become one of the first to own your very own personal flying machine that can legally drive on any road in the world!
Now for the Vespa and Lambretta versions...
