Roadkill: April 2001
Three more scooters to drive; three more emails arrive:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My girlfriend received the scooter last week. It looks fantastic and runs great too. Thank you for doing a wonderful job on the restoration and rebuild.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I peek into the garage and gaze lovingly at it every nite- Italians do have a knack for designing some beautiful machinery! I also own a ducati 748 superbike and it's hard to say which stokes me more- They both are awesome in their own ways.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The '65 VBB arrived today and it's absolutely beautiful. It looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. I put oil in the gearbox and fueled it up and it started without a problem. Thanks for all the great work. You have another satisfied customer.
Life is always interesting on the other side. The street warden has been badgering us to put up the flag, as required, in order to demonstrate our "solidarity" during the Party Congress and imminent Liberation holiday. Apparently spontaneous solidarity flew all up and down the street except for one indifferent blot - until today. Somehow we ended up with the hammer and sickle, so we must be very solid.
The office debate-of-the-day was entitled "Who's castle anyway? Bourgeois and revolutionary conceptions of the private."
The
yellow fellow has been finished.
°° We rather enjoyed a piece on scooter slogan Chinglish in Taiwan. Sample: "DUKE - Dreaming Knight of brave, characteristic, aggressive, active. The modern scooter citizen for new generation." Informative. OK, one a little more artsy: "PARTY 100 - Flying Angel of
Elegant, Nimble and Beautiful." Read the rest
here, brave knights.
Remember the famous picture of the helicopter on the roof of the US Consulate in Saigon 1975? That building was torn down the other year in favor of a new, smaller consulate and the extra land was recently made over into a very nice green space for the staff. -A rarity in this city. Here is a
photo taken yesterday when we dropped off a scooter we just finished for a soon-to-return ex-pat. Kind of fun driving the scooter over such famous ground thinking that, even in 1975, this scooter was already 10 years old! Wonder where it was on that very day as the last helicopter left…
Nice email today after a scooter was received: "The fit and finish exceeded expectations. Upon seeing it, people are surprised to learn it isn't new. The paint and chrome are very good. The engine sounds and runs well. Overall I am pleased with the scooter....Tell the guys in the shop that their work is impressing a lot of folks here in the San Diego, California area." Will do. And thanks for the suggestions added.
Incredibly busy. SX200 to the left of me, VBB's to my right. Here's an LIS200, stuck in the
middle for you.
°° The boat has left the building. New parts gently float their way towards you as you sleep…
