1975: Saigon surrenders
Apr. 30, 2004, 11:21 AM

We'll be closed until Tuesday for holidays here, but go ahead with orders onsite.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1975: Saigon surrenders
The war in Vietnam ended today as the government in Saigon announced its unconditional surrender to the Vietcong.
The President, Duong Van Minh, who has been in office for just three days, made the announcement in a radio broadcast to the nation early this morning. He asked his forces to lay down their arms and called on the Vietcong to halt all hostilities.
In a direct appeal to the Communist forces, he said: “We are here to hand over to you the power in order to avoid bloodshed.”
The announcement was followed swiftly by the arrival of Vietcong troops. Their entrance was virtually unopposed, confounding predictions of a bloody and protracted last-ditch battle for the city.
PLAN TO CLOSE MISSION AT ABOUT 0430 30 APRIL LOCAL TIME. DUE TO NECESSITY TO DESTROY [COMMUNICATIONS] GEAR THIS IS THE LAST MESSAGE FROM EMBASSY SAIGON.
After those words were sent, someone took a sledgehammer to the machinery. The ambassador and CIA chief were flown out by 5 a.m., and the last official American presence - 11 Marines - waited for a helicopter on the roof.
Vespa M-class
Apr. 29, 2004, 12:00 AM
“The figs are falling from the trees, and as they fall, their red skin bursts. I am a north wind to ripe figs.”
What does that mean? Who knows, but two more Vespa M-class are gone. A few in the lovely antique silver (has a slight golden tinge) are still left and a couple others.
Doing a little Google search on Lambretta we stumbled upon this interesting phrase: “clitty developer snugly replicate lambretta trembling follow doll.” Gee, wonder what sort of site would have that phrase on it?
Lambretta vented disc and more
Apr. 5, 2004, 10:54 PM
If you haven't noticed, we've added a whole slew of new parts including lot's of stainless steel studs for Lambrettas, PX adges, Lambretta clutch spring, and a genuine Keihin PWK 28mm carburetor.
We've also remade our regular Lambretta disc to be vented like a modern one. A nice addition. The vents help to cool the disc and avoid fading. Nice.
Get ‘em while their hot.
George Clooney scooter
Apr. 4, 2004, 9:56 AM
A lot of people don't know that superstud George Clooney is one of our customers. George took time out of his busy schedule to write in:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Right now the scooter is on its way to me in Germany. It's spent the last year in a friend's garage, and I had my doubts if it would start or even be rideable. I cleaned it up a bit, tire pressure was just right where it should be, gave it some gas/oil, hydraulic fluid, and transmission fluid, and after some work finally got it to start. (A few times more than the third kick as a recent letter to you went.) It ran wonderfully, and was sheer joy ride! Once it gets here I might have the cables looked at, as they were a bit tight on the shifting. A fine job you have done on it, and it truly is a thing of beauty! The paint is excellent, and the pearl and mica red looks great in the sun. Again, great job!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Need to adjust and grease the cables likely; they dry up from sitting so long.
Hmmm. Those must be George's stables in the background. Must be nice.
