Mods and Rockers
Jul. 25, 2003, 5:53 AM

May 18, 1964: Mods and Rockers jailed after seaside riots

From the BBC website with video and audio reports from the day, as well as a summary to put it all in context:

From the early to mid-Sixties young, mainly working class, Britons with cash to spend joined one of two youth movements.

The Mods wore designer suits protected by Parka jackets and were often armed with coshes and flick-knives. They rode Vespa or Lambretta scooters bedecked with mirrors and mascots and listened to Ska music and The Who.

Rockers rode motorbikes - often at 100mph with no crash helmets - wore leathers and listened to the likes of Elvis and Gene Vincent.

Inevitably the two gangs clashed. The 1964 Whitsun weekend violence in Brighton was famously dramatised in the film Quadrophenia (1979).

In August that year police had to be flown into the Sussex resort of Hastings to break up fights between the two gangs.

But two years later, most Mods had turned their attentions to the burgeoning, more laid-back, hippie culture.

Vespa and Lambretta alarm system
Jul. 24, 2003, 12:10 PM

Alarm/immobiliser/remote starterWorried about security? Might want to check out the alarm system we sell. A nice email arrived today about a Lambretta we did some months back regarding it:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My mechanic thinks that alarm/immobiliser/starter is brilliant - thinks he might order a bunch and do upgrades for the locals here. He's using my bike as a test case. He has also had the bike in the shop for a week now and reckons that everyone who comes in is amazed at the quality and absolutely loves the bike - as they should, it's fantastic!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We agree about the alarm. And glad everyone likes the scooter.

scootRS Lambretta TV175 award winner
Jul. 12, 2003, 12:22 AM

A nice email arrived and a nice story appeared about a scootRS TV175.

At Italian Week in Ottawa, Canada, this scooter won “Best Two-Wheeled Vehicle”:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[T]he bike also beat a Ducati 999, Monster, and 760. When you figure a Duc 999 costs about $27000 Canadian, the cost of one of your bikes is way cheap to have the nicest ride in town.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The scooter can be seen in an Ottawa Citizen story. A very similar scooter we did can be seen in our photo library.

VBC
Jul. 3, 2003, 11:03 PM

The owner of a scootRS VBC with an all-new 5-port motor option - pretty much standard for everyone now at scootRS - has posted an update:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi to all. So far 1550 km. No issues at all. Running like a charm. I haven't gone full throttle yet, max speed so far is 80 km/h at 3/4 throttle. Seems to me I can go faster but I'm being conservative until a few more miles. Would I buy a ScootRS scooter again? Definitely, it was worth it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Good to hear. A 5-port VBC is truly a fine little thing!
