Scooter review
Sep. 28, 2001, 12:46 AM

Nice email arrived today:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I uncrated last night. This morning I washed it down. Put oil in the gear box, did the premix gas, gassed it up, turned on the ignition, pulled the choke, flipped the gas lever, kicked the starter, and, yes, it started first time out of the gate. Very Impressed. Beautiful Job!!
"WOW!" appears to be the only possible response here.
A "YO!" seems more in order for The Riding Elvi of Fort Worth, Austin, Dallas. YO!
PIII
Sep. 22, 2001, 5:19 PM
New computers, new scooters. Finally got the office computers back on track and this entry comes courtesy a new PIII 933. Can now try and finish off the new site design.
We have put back up for auction a very nice Vespa VLB. The original winner didn't complete payment. His loss, your potential gain. Last chance for romance: it's the last Vespa we have in Oakland.
°°
A nice email and more SF news:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love what you have done with the build your own scooter part of your site. One of these days I'm sure I'll order a Lambretta...I just enjoy building them myself too much right now. I went to a rally here in SF and (I think due a lot to your company) there were more Lambrettas than I have ever seen before - and nice ones too.

ScootRS feedback
Sep. 10, 2001, 1:22 PM

Please note that all shipments from North America may be slow until after the 13th. -Someone's gone to Disneyland. Here in the Nam every day is Disney-like, so orders from here will go out normally.

°°

Wondering about buying scooters via auction, and how safe that is? Here's our posted feedback:

Back to normal
Sep. 7, 2001, 2:32 PM

Let's be cautious, but it would seem that things are back to normal onsite. You should get order receipts as normal now. Let us know if you don't.

The most well restored one
Sep. 6, 2001, 1:58 AM

Hooray! We're back! -Oh, damn: not quite. The website isn't sending emails properly and the ftp is still mucked up. You can order because we'll check onsite, but you won't get an email receipt. For the moment, email any questions directly to us (info@) rather than onsite. Here are the recent non-posts:

September 3, 10:19 PM

Our site host has decided that "upgrading" means ruining our email service without telling us. If you're trying to reach us, hold on please. If email bounces back, please re-send it in a day.

September 4, doesn't really matter what time, does it?

Of course you didn't see yesterday's post, or this one yet, because when we went to post it our ftp server was gone. Strange. Then found that our homepage said, "future site of scootrs.com." That awakened our interest. Apparently our host looked up "upgrade" in the dictionary and it said, "without notice, kill your customer's email and website."

Septtembrius the 648th, PK98:721

Upgrade website? upgrade website? ugradep website? gradeup website? degraded website? degrade website? What? What??? I can't hear a thing.

Did you happen to see the fully-restored SX200s we auctioned recently? Well the new owner of one of them tells us some interesting San Francisco stories:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PS. The bike is awesome. I've looked at most every shop here and yours is by far the most well restored one I've seen so far. I have run into some "snobs" who without seeing my bike told me "You can't have possibly bought an SX200 for that amount. It must have something wrong with it"... When I explained your company, they immediately said "oh yeah, sorry to tell you but Vietnam bikes are worthless, we refuse to work on them. You got ripped off" I gave back the items I was buying and told him that it was ok. Since my bike ran like new I didn't imagine I had a need for him to work on it, and when it does need something I'm sure I'll find someone more professional. There sure is a lot of bias against bikes from Vietnam, but I guess there are horror stories to back them up. Thankfully I don't have any concerns, one kick and my bike starts and runs like a charm. I think I have the best looking bike in town, and this town (SF) has a lot of nice bikes. I have no qualms driving up to any shop in town and showing it off. Thanks for the
good job. When I'm ready to buy another one, I'll call you first.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And you know what? That isn't the first email from sf like that. And the owner of one of the best vbbs in sf [insert smile here] emailed practically the same thing recently. -And added that thankfully the sf scooterists he meets are receptive and appreciative of good work, and understand that we are not to be confused with our location. Then again, who's confusing whom? And why?

°°

Fun activity: go around to various shops and get quotes for an electric start sx200 with all the new parts we include in our restorations. Write report.

Day without a date. Damned if I know what's been going on

Couldn't go into work today. Strange things are underway in Spain. Apparently there is no website. How can there be no website? There must be a website. Maybe the website is in hiding, or is waiting for a signal in order to appear, or somehow doesn't realize that it is a website? Perhaps England or France or one of the other major powers is involved? Later went for a walk, then mostly just lay on my bed and thought about the Spanish question. (Apologies to Gogol.)

Electric start Lambretta restoration option
Sep. 1, 2001, 1:17 PM

OK, we added the electric start option for Lambretta restorations, thus offering the first and only commercially available electric start Lambretta restoration in the world. Go nuts.

Also added an extra porting option for vl1 and vb1 scooters. It will make your old 1950's scooter drive like a 1960s 150, which is a big improvement. A great addition.

One day left on the coolest scooter in North America.
